Summary

Nalini Singh returns to the world of the Guild Hunters for the most highly anticipated novel of the beloved series—a love story so epic it’s been half a millennia in the making…

Illium and Aodhan。 Aodhan and Illium。 For centuries they’ve been inseparable: the best of friends, closer than brothers, companions of the heart。 But that was before—before darkness befell Aodhan and shattered him, body, mind, and soul。 Now, at long last, Aodhan is healing, but his new-found strength and independence may come at a devastating cost—his relationship with Illium。

As they serve side by side in China, a territory yet marked by the evil of its former archangel, the secret it holds nightmarish beyond imagining, things come to an explosive decision point。 Illium and Aodhan must either walk away from the relationship that has defined them—or step forward into a future that promises a bond infinitely precious in the life of an immortal…but that demands a terrifying vulnerability from two badly bruised hearts。

Fingers crossed;)。Thank you to Berkley for the digital ARC。 。。。more

Illium and Aodhan。 Blue and Adi。 Bluebell and Sparkles。 Best friends since they were the littlest of angels in the refuge, But when a single moment of pure evil breaks Aodhan in body and spirit, Illium steps up to protect him from the world while he heals; because that's what best friends do。 But as Aodhan begins to reassert his independence, Blue will have to figure out how to stop walking in front of Adi and start to walk beside him once again。 I've wanted this story for a long time。 And while Illium and Aodhan。 Blue and Adi。 Bluebell and Sparkles。 Best friends since they were the littlest of angels in the refuge, But when a single moment of pure evil breaks Aodhan in body and spirit, Illium steps up to protect him from the world while he heals; because that's what best friends do。 But as Aodhan begins to reassert his independence, Blue will have to figure out how to stop walking in front of Adi and start to walk beside him once again。 I've wanted this story for a long time。 And while I didn't get EXACTLY what I wanted, when I wanted it, I got the confirmation I needed to keep me happy。 Illium has always been one of my favorite characters of this series。 Delightful in his enthusiasm, humor, and capacity to love, his presence only serves to further elevate the storyline。 China and cleaning up after Lijun remains the prime directive of this series at the moment。 Focusing on Aodhan, Illium, and their combined pasts, Singh fleshes out their relationship, showing the possibility of a wonderous future together while further digging out the rot that Lijun left in her wake of destruction。 Looking forward to the next in the series ASAP! 。。。more

4 starsI received an e-ARC copy of Archangel's Light from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 The book is wonderful。 It is a well written ode to a long time bond of friendship between Illium and Aodhan。 I liked all the past hopping。 It was great to see baby angel Bluebelle and Sparkle grow up and into their friendship。 There are great glimpses of the seven and how they are together, plus answers to some long held questions。 It is very slow moving plotwise and most of th 4 starsI received an e-ARC copy of Archangel's Light from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 The book is wonderful。 It is a well written ode to a long time bond of friendship between Illium and Aodhan。 I liked all the past hopping。 It was great to see baby angel Bluebelle and Sparkle grow up and into their friendship。 There are great glimpses of the seven and how they are together, plus answers to some long held questions。 It is very slow moving plotwise and most of the significance of this book is about Illium and Aodhan, not the over arcing plot of the angelic world。 Although there is an interesting development that may have repercussions。 Mostly this feels like a bit of a breath before the next big plot arc。 Overall this is the answer to the Aodhan and Illium relationship。 It doesn't feel like the end of the series though。 So I look forward to the next book。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review。 Buckle up kiddos because I am having a moment here。 I must confess, I'm three books behind in this series。 While I adore Ellie and Raphael and the main storyline is brilliant, I couldn't help but be sad。 Watching Illium and Aodhan dance around one another knowing they probably would never be together was just too much; I told myself I'd reread the entire series once it ended。 Maybe it would hurt le Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review。 Buckle up kiddos because I am having a moment here。 I must confess, I'm three books behind in this series。 While I adore Ellie and Raphael and the main storyline is brilliant, I couldn't help but be sad。 Watching Illium and Aodhan dance around one another knowing they probably would never be together was just too much; I told myself I'd reread the entire series once it ended。 Maybe it would hurt less (I'm a Harry/Hermione fan, I have S U F F E R E D okay?)And。 Then。 I。 Saw。 The。 Cover。 Of。 Archangel's。 Light。The screech I let out was so shrill and sudden my cat jumped a good 2ft in the air。 But it couldn't be possible, could it? A m/m romance in a formulaic m/f established popular romance series - bah, never。 Until I read the excerpt。 Fast forward to the point where I get an eARC and proceed to skip right to the very end of the book。 It had to be queerbaiting。 But it wasn't。 Oh, oh, oh it's not and it's amazing。 My cold, dead heart almost can't take it。 Adi and BlueSparkle and BluebellAodhan and IlliumNow, other reviews are correct about the romance portrayed here - there's no spicy-spice between Aodhan and Illium。 Normally I would be annoyed they aren't getting the same treatment as the other couples but in this book it's fitting。 They've got some stuff to work through, both individually and together, so them jumping each other's bones would seem rather abrupt。 What we do get FINALLY is major glimpses into their lives and histories, and how the two of them are so intertwined that it would be impossible for some interloper to insert herself into their dynamic。There is plot to this book outside of the romance, as usual。 Could I tell you about it? Nope。 During this first read-through my brain was doing nothing but screaming 'THIS IS HAPPENING' as I read。It thoroughly cracks me up, all the excuses people are using to drag this pairing。'Adi/Blue getting together ruins a strong male friendship' - Um, what do you think the Seven are?'I'm all for the gays but I don't want to see it' - Oh, you mean the way the LGBTQ community has to wade through millions of m/f romances every single day? 'I can't imagine myself in a m/m romance and that's the appeal of this series' - You have a very sad imagination and I feel bad for you。'But they never SAID they were gay!' - Do you know the sexuality of every person you meet? And who says they identify as gay??! I'm Aro/Ace and didn't realize it until I was 30 - why on earth would you assign such hard limits to non-human immortal beings? I did read the whole book but I've gone back to the final chapter probably 10 times already。 The ending of this book is really just the beginning for these two and I can't describe the joy I feel knowing we'll get more of them together as the series continues (I expect the spicy-spice in all its explicit glory, thank you very much)。 I can go back and reread the series, seeing all those moments between them that hit hard the first time and know it leads to something beautiful。 Love is love。 。。。more

Can Aodhan convince Illium that he is no longer broken?Illium has always been my favorite character from this series since his first appearance。 I adore his playful and infectious personality。 Illium loves everyone in his close sphere equally and unconditionally, well except for Aodhan。 That is just the type of angel he has always been。 Someone must do something horrendous or evil to make Illium despise or hate them。 What I love the most about Illium is his selflessness。 He may not understand the hurt his mother and Aodhan went through, but he never begrudged them the space they needed to heal, even if it hurt him。Aodhan is another one of my fond favorites。 I could not help but empathize with him from the start。 I have always had a soft spot for the wounded/tortured types。 The author finally reveals Aodhan’s past, and man was it devastating。 What I adore the most about Aodhan is how he always looks after Illium。 Even at his lowest, Aodhan made the effort to reach out to his friend when Illium needed him most。ARCHANGEL’S LIGHT is book fourteen in Nalini Singh’s wildly popular paranormal series, GUILD HUNTER。 I highly recommend reading the prior books to understand the build-up leading to this story。 I love how the author balances the chapters。 One will be about the present, and then the next gives readers a glimpse into the two’s past。 This formula allows us to see the bond between Illium and Adohan start and grow。This book does not follow the standard m/m romance storytelling, which I adore。 The author focuses more on the gritty and raw emotion between two individuals than dirty smut。I know there will be people unhappy that these two ended up together。 Honestly? I would have it no other way。 It made sense to me。 Illium and Aodhan belong together。 I have always felt that way early in the series。 ARCHANGEL’S LIGHT is the most anticipated book in Nalini Singh’s GUILD HUNTER series。 Illium has always been the fandoms’ favorite。 Generally favored characters from a series, their stories tend to fall flat。 That is not the case with this book。 The author did not disappoint! 。。。more

Well this book has been so many years in the making, and it’s finally here! Considering we’ve been waiting for ilium & aodhans story for years there was a lot of expectation for this book to try to meet。 This is also (to my knowledge) Singh first book that doesn’t feature a f/m relationship so that also caused a lot of anticipation in me, wondering how it would go。 My opinion is that it was ok。 The world building was as excellent as ever and I enjoyed getting to know Suyin & see what’s going on Well this book has been so many years in the making, and it’s finally here! Considering we’ve been waiting for ilium & aodhans story for years there was a lot of expectation for this book to try to meet。 This is also (to my knowledge) Singh first book that doesn’t feature a f/m relationship so that also caused a lot of anticipation in me, wondering how it would go。 My opinion is that it was ok。 The world building was as excellent as ever and I enjoyed getting to know Suyin & see what’s going on in China now that Lijuan is gone。 And the relationship building was good too, it’s just that the relationship being developed for the first 92% of the book was friendship。 Literally 92% of the book focused on ilium & aodhan rebuilding their friendship, & on showing us them growing up together。 It was beautifully developed and the characters were well written, it just wasn’t my expectation for a romance story because the characters only think of each other as friends until the 93% mark in the story。 And then they are apart for the next 5%, so we basically get about 2% of the story of them thinking of each other as more than friends。 Amd don’t get me wrong, Singh is infamous at the slow burn and most of her books are slow burn, with sexual intimacy frequently not occurring until the 75% mark but the characters usually spent time throughout the book considering each other as potential romantic partners, grappling with romantic desire for the other, & encountering & overcoming potential obstacles to being together。 We don’t get any of that in this book though, the characters don’t think of each other as maybe more than friends until we’ll after the 90% mark。 SPOILER****************** also there is no lovemaking scenes at all。 There are a couple of kisses at 93% & 99% but that’s it。 Singh has never written a book in this series or psy changeling that didn’t include lovemaking scenes so this was unexpected。 Perhaps she was uncomfortable writing about two men loving each other? Or perhaps she is a straight woman and didn’t feel right writing those scenes? But she could have done a closed door allusion to it if that were the case so I was left feeling that maybe Singh didn’t feel comfortable with two men lovemaking and that made me sad。 It wouldn’t have stood out to me so much except that she has LITERALLY never written another book in this series or psy changeling that didn’t have lovemaking between the couple (& both series have over 13 books plus many novellas) so it really seemed like a significant deviation。 Because of the years of build up and the book then being so different in style from the others I was left a little disappointed。 But the writing is as strong as ever, I was merely disappointed a bit w the direction。 。。。more

This is Illium and Aodhan's story。 Through flashbacks we see key events in their 500 year long friendship from the time they met as baby angels to the current day in a Lijuan-ravaged China。 We finally get the story of what happened to Aodhan when he was captured and imprisoned for twenty-three months of torture and then took 200 years of seclusion to come to terms with it and rebuild himself。 We learn more about the hidden fractures in Illium too。Aodhan and Illium have been at odds for the past This is Illium and Aodhan's story。 Through flashbacks we see key events in their 500 year long friendship from the time they met as baby angels to the current day in a Lijuan-ravaged China。 We finally get the story of what happened to Aodhan when he was captured and imprisoned for twenty-three months of torture and then took 200 years of seclusion to come to terms with it and rebuild himself。 We learn more about the hidden fractures in Illium too。Aodhan and Illium have been at odds for the past year since the final defeat of Lijuan。 Illium's need to protect is coming into direct conflict with Aodhan's need to be independent and strong on his own。 Aodhan being seconded to Suyin - China's newly ascended archangel - threatens to make their quarrel and separation a permanent thing。 But Raphael isn't going to give up one of his Seven to Suyin without a fight。 He knows she wants to offer Aodhan the permanent position as her second since she asked him for permission to approach him。 Raphael's secret weapon is Illium who he sends to China to provide more help for Suyin。 He ceratinly hopes that will cause Illium and Aodhan to mend their differences and also bring them back to New York as parts of his Seven。Flashbacks show how the relationship between the two of them grew over their lives and forced proximity in the current time forces them to finally talk to each other but what each of them needs in a relationship。 While all of the Guild Hunter books have a central core of romance, this is the first in the series when the romance is between characters who have literally known each other all their lives。 It is a wonderful exploration of how love changes with time。 It was a lovely story。 。。。more

Exactly what I needed。 The history of Bluebell and Sparkle, the lasting bonds that still have room to grow and strengthen。 There is so much happening in the world of Archangels and this little piece of love, friendship, loyalty, and hope was done to perfection。 I might write a full review after I read this a second (or third) time。
